McKee Wallwork Cleveland (MWC) Office Building is a 12,000 square foot office building designed for McKee Wallwork Cleveland Advertising Agency. Construction of this project began in November 2006 and will be completed in October 2007. The site is located near Old Town in the Sawmill District of Albuquerque. This office building has a capacity of 55 people for the rapidly growing agency, which is currently at 33 employees.
MWC’s collaborative and creative work processes, along with the desire to have a sustainable working environment, are the main design concepts that inform the building architecture. edi is the lead designer and coordinator of the project team, as well as the LEED™ Accredited Professional.
Water Efficiency
The landscape uses captured rainwater from two large cisterns and is also designed with native and low water use plants. All plants, once established, will be able to thrive with little or no supplemental potable water. Building water fixtures, including toilets and sinks, are designed to use up to 30% less water than a standard building.
Energy Efficiency
Systems are designed to interact with each other eliminating redundancy and waste. A highly insulated building shell, high quality windows, a reflective roof and light colored stucco work together to keep cooling loads down. Concrete floors and stone walls help stabilize the indoor air temperature. Perforated metal shade screens keep hot western sun out, while providing lines of sight to nature. The mechanical system is designed to operate efficiently and effectively with high efficiency compressors. Economizers are used to utilize the outdoor air temperature to mitigate heating and cooling loads. The indoor quality of air is improved by bringing in fresh air, when weather permits, through an advanced filtration system. In addition, all mechanical units utilize refrigerant that is not harmful to the environment.
